Milan-based label, party series, and monthly radio show Alzaya Records continues a top-notch streak of releases with its freshest addition in digital and wax. You Are Sleeping EP features none other than the label’s co-founder Nicodemo, who crafted three original tracks on side A, and two remixes from Domenico Rosa and Aldonna on the B-side.
We start off with Domenico Rosa’s reinterpretation of “You Are Sleeping” on side B1, a certified dancefloor-weapon that embodies his club-oriented vision. Industrial like synths and sharp pads encircle each other while squeaky notes weave their way through the piece and give its dark, yet captivating allure.
Flipping back to the A-side, Nicodemo’s original version of the title track introduces the EP’s mood: a steady but understated rhythmic frame supporting displaced vocal presences and delayed harmonic responses. Dreamy and charming, energetic yet somehow slow-paced, it’s one of those chameleonic tracks that fits in any given environment.
A minimal superpower, “Minor Haze” on A2 is best highlighted by its driving rhythm and spectral motion. Next, “Echo Phase” follows and extends these concepts further through a looping melodic line and fragmented echoes. Last but not least, Aldonna’s vision on “Echo Phase” on B2 recontextualises its rhythm and structure, exploring faster-paced territory.
“You Are Sleeping” EP will be officially released on June 10, and until then, it can be pre-ordered on Bandcamp.
