The latest on Body Movement sees label boss Robert James share the wax with Kolter (aka DJOKO). Both artists take a side, serving up two tracks each on Planet Pusher EP.
It’s hard to believe it’s been a little over two years since the label launched. Rob and the team behind it have been in full throttle mode since then. The platform has become a dedicated space for the sounds of funk-fuelled electro and deep house groove.
Kepler & Relpek (Kepler’s naughty bassline alias) sent waves with his ‘One For Bill’ EP last month, which hit Juno’s top spot in the charts within 24 hours.
The label continues to announce their involvement in events far and wide, recently celebrating their 5th birthday with a large day and night party at The Cause. They’ll also be stage hosting at this year’s Gottwood (alongside yours truly at Trommel).
Robert James closes his side of the ‘Planet Pusher’ EP with ‘Planet Funk’. After a sexy deep house groove that nods back to a previous blend, the second half of the wax delivers a stripped back, grittier sound. Breaks set the beat, while a deep and dirty bassline sets the tone.
Percussion rattles around snappy snare as filter feeds in squelching groove. Melody takes control of the break, lifting to heights and a short stop of dream state. As the beat kicks back, momentary acapellas hug punching rhythm. Its a tasty blend of the last decade of sound from Rob.
Kolter takes on the B side with a fusion of the rave, two tracks dominated by intricate melodies and grooving synth lines.
Buy the record from Juno, released on 28th February.
