Romanian artist Oros presents the first of many vinyl-only releases on his own Cameleon Records imprint. Having already had several well received digital releases to date Oros welcomes back Paul Walter back to the fold where he reworks one of the two original works on offer.
Our pick of the new vinyl only EP is A2 “Vishwar” and the playful bassline of the track lead out is soon altered by the progressing droned synth that creeps into the track. Giving a much deeper atmosphere that hypnotises more and more with each passing beat and the addition of the almost chant like singing deepens the trip. Existing in two planes, the crisp beats and thudding kicks from Oros help to meld the two worlds together to create the spiraling journey that can easily be described as “mediative”.
The remainder of the EP is balanced by the original track “Royalties” and an excellent remix from Paul Walter. Where the original is free to wander and expand its true musical potential, Walter takes the meandering fluted synths and crops them back to fit with his bumping grooves that bob and weave to create his own hypnotic style. Both versions are equally great, but Oros has really drilled down into an excellent theme for his first vinyl only release that is nicely balanced with Walter’s stripped back ethos.
Cameleon Records is a label to keep your eyes on as they have a wealth of digital releases under their belt already with us already presenting an outing from Tommy Vicari Jnr.
