Paris-born producer and label owner Okain closes one chapter while opening another with the final release of his Monochrome series on Talman Records. Marking his move back to France after spending 14 years in Berlin and featuring the last tracks he wrote in his studio back there, the release feels both like a farewell to a defining period and a greeting to the new chapter that awaits him back in France.
A “Tribute” to the place that defined his musical journey for more than a decade and shaped his creativity, today’s premiere on A2 has quite some stories to tell. You can sense the heightened emotions flowing through the funky synths, sprinkled with a bit of nostalgia and anticipation for what lies ahead.
“Ah Wah” on side A1 opens up the album with an infectious deep-house energy, with puzzling vocal samples and playful twists that add character to the piece and drive it onward.
We flip the record over to the B-side, where “Sub Stance” greets us with its garage-driven feel as the needle drops on wax. A rhythmic, catchy bassline runs through it, accompanied by mesmerising vocals and outerspace-like pads.
We’ve come to an end, and all there’s left to do is to “Feel The Funk”, the captivating closing track on side B2. Darker and gloomier, it explores a dubbier, industrial-like territory while staying true to the narrative woven by its album counterparts.
Monochrome 3 is still yet to be released, but until then, it can be pre-ordered on Volumo and deejay.de.
