French artists have a lot to answer for. Two of their most prolific artists, REda daRE and Okain, team up on the “Sleepless” EP for the long-running imprint BienAimer Music.
With two versions of REda daRE’s “Sleepless” available on this digital EP, we opt for the stripped-back reworking from Okain. Where the original harnesses more raw energy, Okain heads down a more percussive bass-heavy route. Taking rhythm cues from the original version, the bass tones are more active in the sub areas as opposed to the more live bass feel of the original.
When it comes to the vocal parts of “Sleepless”, Okain has again edged towards a more dub version with tasteful vocal samples and gates rather than lifting the full vocal. As good as the original vocal is, the dub version suits Okain’s idea of the mix much better here. So, instead of the raucous vibe of REda daRE’s version, Okain turns in a bubbling heater designed for darker floors and rooms.
