iO (Mulen) lands on Partisan for the first time with the hardest bangers up to date. Yes, recently, he moved his productions into the dark and villain side, but these 4 will kick some asses hard even on his own standards.
“I Won’t Betray You” is one of those tracks where you understand that the voice is definitely a must. And the magical phrase will stay with you long after you hear the track.
“Hyperspace”, the opener, plays well with the melody, which turns pads into kicks on top of another gorgeous voice. “Electromagnetic”, like our main one today, leaves you with its name on your lips. “You Remember This Summer”, finally, turns this house EP into some almost rock’n’roll joint.
The main point of the release, as iO (Mulen) states: “It’s rooted in an old-school tech-house aesthetic, infused with pronounced electro and acid elements. The production relies on iconic hardware instruments and romplers that became symbols of their era, including E-MU Orbit 9090, E-MU Xtreme Lead-1, E-MUMo’Phatt, Korg Monologue, and others. These machines shaped the EP’s dense, organic groove and gave it a distinct vintage character. Work on this EP stretched over nearly a year and took place under extremely difficult conditions. During a time when Russia was destroying our people and energy infrastructure, there were weeks without electricity or the ability to work on music properly. Pressure, instability, and constant attempts to demoralize our nation became part of the reality in which this release was created.”
