Dani Labb is one of four artists shaping the next release on the the Argentinian vinyl label Pryma Records.
Returning to a various artist format after the previous release from Percunta, their fourth release invites four artists connected to the project. Each release has been warmly received from the vinyl community, soundtracking many dance floors across Europe and further afield.
This fourth instalment continues a fine streak of form for the label, presenting four spirited tracks full of curiosity and intrigue. Inspiration from the darker ends of dance music seeps into compositions, working mean new-wave-like basslines and fierce snare drums packing the tracks with energy.
We focus on Dani Labb’s contribution, one of the main minds behind Pryma Records. No stranger to the Trommel channels, his energetic music appeared recently for fellow Argentinian label Micra Recordings. The South American forces also came to full fruition in his collaboration with the Uruguayan powerhouse Santiago Uribe.
Now with some context of influences and style, you can begin to appreciate our pick from the A2 on his home label, ‘Transiente’. Leaning into clever synth work, ominous atmospheres are glossed with a feeling of bliss and excitement through slick acid lines and a serpent-like set of percussion sliding between each note.
It definitely sounds like a producer who knows his way around his studio. Sounds are packed with a strong punch, cutting through the mix with a fierce charm, whilst leaving space for individual elements to hold their own space. The 303 takes centre stage, complemented by subtle stabs and weird vocal blips simmering in and out of the mix.
You can picture Omar and Z@p causing a frenzy with this evil weapon. Montei shares the A-side with Dani, bringing a similarly charged track with a strong nod to new-wave and post-punk influence. Classic Moog bass and strong vocal work brings a dramatic vibe perfect for the late night, discerning dance floors.
Light Blue File is the producer opening the flip side. Moods remain particularly menacing, working a strong acid flavour with a sense of playfulness and sleaze. It’s a cheeky weapon that would be sure to bring both fire and smiles to the floor.
Mich concludes the EP with an emotive bomb. Luscious melodies pull on the heartstrings in this delicate jam. The sun is rising, the sweat drips down devoted dancers faces… you can already picture the scenes this one will evoke across the world.
