Romanian Costin Rp’s recent discography has included several highlights for the likes of Pleasure Zone and Pressure Traxx but it is his upcoming 12 inch – “Shapes” EP on Isla Records that made us sit up and take notice.
Kicking off this 3-track vinyl only release is the bubbling, almost broken dub of “Design Shapes” which also benefits from a more floor focused remix by fellow Romanian – Melodie.
However, it is the hypnotic, acidic groove of “Doors Open” that has us dropping the needle right back at the beginning again and again. On first listen, “Doors Open” seems to groove along nicely maintaining a functional edge that can be found in all top minimal tracks, but upon 2nd and 3rd listen “Doors Open” does just that and reveals layer upon layer of finely tuned and intertwined percussion, cerebral bass notes and ethereal pads. This one will do devastating things to minds in the middle of a rave as much as it will at the after-hours.
