One of Italy’s most influential reference points for underground music, longstanding Verona institution Veniceberg returns to label business. Founded by Michele Preda back in 2012, the club has gone from strength to strength under his management and he then breathed new life into the brand in 2015 with the advent of the label.
The next edition focuses on one of their young residents Banjo where he delivers an upfront clutch of dancefloor bombs. He joins an illustrious team of artists on the label that also include Enrico Mantini, 100Hz, Minimono, Kurillo, and most recently Luca Piermattei.
All tracks on this EP are very much worthy of your time, but we kick off with “I’m Very Open Mind”. There are a few notable influences here but they are all stitched together here by way of the huge bassline that glues all the ideas together. From the electro beginnings, the lush synths stabs, and breakbeats breakdown, they are all brought together in one dancefloor destroying mode.
A1 track “I’m An Atomic Playboy” is just as impactful as it introduces the EP and Banjo in the most emphatic way. Distorted ravey swipes act as synth stabs while the deep bass tones do the damage. It is easy to see why Banjo has been welcomed into the team at Veniceberg with tracks like this in his locker.
Flipping over to side B and Banjo’s love for hardcore techno and vintage house is on show again here on “Acid Break”. Doing exactly what it says on the tin, the breakbeats and a 303 work together to produce an outrageous groove. Completing an excellent package from the Veniceberg resident is “Dirty Mind” and continuing the theme of on point vocal samples, he rounds out the EP in style with an irresistible groove complete with his trademark blown bassline hitting the spot.
