Moscow based Engineer Records present their fourth output since inception in 2017. Adding to the patient and carefully curated series, frequent face Wyro joins forces with Mobile Soul System, alongside Alfij and Farid Odibekov, whilst Mihai Pol concludes the package with his signature dreamscapes on remix duties.
Premiered track ‘Juliemadiscake’ strikes a satisfying balance between playful and deep. Friendly and infectious melodies drift in-between airy, shuffling hats, whilst psychedelic textures swim in the depths. Modular-like plucks and blips offer abstract and alluding atmospheres, weaving between an addictive bassline carrying the groove.
Maintaining a drama-free arrangement, sounds surface in satisfying unison with one another, revealing slick acid patterns unraveling in conversational call and response against blissful chords. Subtle breakdowns shift between paces, casually adding or reducing percussion parts, gifting space to the melodic shades of the track.
Mihai Pol transforms the A1 in an idyllic remix completing the A-side. Textures from the original caress a new bassline, meandering through a seven-minute delight. Clever vocal work casts a sense of weightlessness familiar to much of the Romanian’s output. Soft, nostalgic-inducing guitar strings hang effortlessly within a looping piano riff, drifting into dream state territory.
Two originals round-up on the flip side. Alfiji boats a percussive workout in ‘Amplified Signal’, whilst Farid Odilbekov brings the heat in a high energy B2 gem.
Engineer Records’ Moscow project spreads to a global audience. With previous releases seeing support from the likes of SIT and Margaret Dygas, as well as frequent airplay at the annual Sunwaves festival, EEE004 is destined to land in the bags of many esteemed selectors.
