What started as a mix series quickly developed into a vinyl only record label that has been welcomed by heavy hitters of our scene that include Ricardo Villalobos and Raresh. For their debut release, they have tapped a bonafide hero of the underground in Tommy Vicari Jnr who delivers three original works.
Acting under his V.I.C.A.R.I. alias he opens up the “Vesuvio” EP with the title track in all its crunchy percussive glory. Known for his ear wormy rattling grooves, he couples this with wide eyed swirling pads and shimmering synths offering the perfect opener to the rest of his equally impressive EP.
Next up is “Rainbowdomes” and again, Tommy’s leftfield style is front and center. Skipping hi hats are met with a rim shot that seems to leap out of the track further punctuating the bubbling blown bassline. The groove here is beyond infectious and is well tempered by the waning synth pad that circles the action throughout.
Rounding out a very fine debut from Digs’N’Jigs Records is “Maybeyoustoppedlovingme” and the meaning of the track is at least two fold. While the track hints at another topic entirely, the track itself is as addictive as it is a total heater. TVJ is one of those special artists that manages to combine super subtle musicality with outrageously in-your-face elements. The filtered vocal samples distract the ear while the electro bassline and pumping grooves prepare to tear the dancefloor a new one.
