The latest instalment on Childhood Intelligence is about to drop. The record label, which operates out of both Berlin and Tokyo, is approaching five years in the making. It features a back catalogue of genre bending, boundary hopping beats that span from abstract and ambient through to house and techno – anything goes, as restrictions remain firmly at the door. French artist Too Smooth Christ makes a debut on the label, with a well thought double LP.
Twelve tracks make up 2 Smooth World Vol. 1. An introspective look into a varied blend matches the ethos of the platform that hosts, allowing the artist the freedom to explore sound. With musicality at the heart and a range of flavours at play, a story is told. A reflection of thoughts and feelings brought by a pandemic, in turn making for a positive interpretation through beats.
Vibes move across the release through relaxing chill, acidic groove, dub fusion, pleasant ambience and dark breaks. It’s a mixture of moments and we’ll start with the first.
‘Tracks Before 9pm’ features on the premiere. It’s a worthy introduction to the record, welcoming in its soft, playful melody and deep bassline groove. A short one in its entirety, the elements all take focus in equal importance. Trickles of delicate organ made majestic by a gently crashing ride. Punchy clap fuelled by the positive notions that you might expect, as percussion dances with electronica.
The full LP is made up of 2 x 12” wax and can be purchased via Bandcamp now.
