Hamburg based imprint The Press Group present their eighth release.
Expressing an emotive crossover of house and breakbeat influences throughout a five year catalogue, The Press Group have remained loyal to a collective of Hamburg-based producers, inviting local artists like Youthman for repeat appearances on the label.
Returning with his fifth solo contribution, co-founder Rupert Marnie shapes four lean house experiments. The premiered ‘Back’ is a guaranteed floor-filler. A mean, acid bassline plays with tension through clever filter work, backed by punchy drums.
Marnie’s sound manages to mold a feeling of playfulness with emotion, grasping at heavily swung hi-hat patterns and bubbly basslines that wouldn’t sound out of place in the sets of the HardWorkSoftDrink crew.
Hopeful, end-of-night pads open up over early sections of the track, moving into a subtle breakdown that could bring tears to the right dance floor. Wistful sounds are coated with an ineffable feeling of nostalgia, deftly splicing feelings of hope and longing.
This reminiscence triggered by weightless, dream-state frequencies carries throughout the release. Varying moods combine menacing acid lines with euphoric pads and silky percussion in each of the four original cuts from Marnie.
