Premiere: A1 – Look Perry – Progreso Inadecuado [DKT006]

Duckit Records returns with its sixth release, continuing the label’s steady, no frills approach to club music that prioritises groove, atmospheres and sound system functionality.

Following a run of releases that have quietly reinforced its identity, including the recent EP from TC80, DKT006 welcomes Look Perry, an alias of Barcelona-based producer Javier Carballo for a four track EP that keeps both feet firmly on the dance floor.

Our premiere focuses on the A1, ‘Progreso Inadecuado’, a track that immediately sets the tone with a deep, floaty groove that unfolds patiently rather than forcing the issue. Carballo strikes a satisfying balance of tech-house and trance flavouring; the type you could hear the likes of DJ Rino spinning this one deep into a marathon set.

Sound design is lush and spacious, encouraging an easy, yet deep listening experience. Long, slow pads and gently evolving textures sit comfortably over a rolling low end that will definitely come alive on a good system.

The arrangement is spacious without feeling sparse, allowing small details and textures to surface and recede as the track progresses. It is easy to imagine this one doing real work in an open air setting, where its hypnotic pull can stretch out over longer periods.

What stands out most is the confidence in the sound design. Nothing feels overworked or ornamental. Each element takes up space with ease. The percussion locks in early and stays grounded, while the melodic elements drift in and out with restraint.

It is the sound of a producer who understands his machines intimately and knows when to let a track breathe. You only have to take one look at Carballo’s Bandcamp to witness his prolific output.

The rest of the EP leans into darker, more playful territory. ‘Funky Monday’ introduces a stranger edge, pairing vocoder laced vocals with a brooding bassline that gives the track a slightly unhinged feel. It’s a quirky trip, maintaining a sense of tension throughout.

‘Sintonia Adversa’ keeps the ominous mood ticking, fizzing with energy as playful synth lines dart around a slick 808 framework and a punky, almost new wave bassline.

Closing the record is DJ Normal’s ‘4 Brakka Mix’ on the B2, injecting his trademark rave energy into the release. The breakbeat-driven rework pushes the EP towards more explosive territory, offering a contrasting angle while staying true to Duckit’s club-focused ethos.

DKT006 feels like a well-rounded addition to the label’s catalogue. It is functional without being generic, detailed without being indulgent, and ‘Progreso Inadecuado’ stands out as a quietly assured opener that rewards both deep listening and extended play on the floor.
