As we ease our way into 2019, one of the things that excites us most about the year ahead is the steady rise of new labels pushing things forward. One such imprint is the freshly minted Krab Records.
Since its inception in May last year, the Sydney based outfit has secured the attention of those in the know through a regular podcast series that has played host to an impressive roster of rising international talent. With a slick aesthetic and natural affection for the eclectic textures of groove-driven minimal house, it goes without saying the label’s debut 12” is one we’ve been waiting for.
The Tundra EP enlists the work of Bernat, whose stellar releases on Hoarder established his knack for balancing calculated precision with playful sensibilities. On remix duties is fellow Argentinian Dani Labb, whose deep-driven intricacies are a regular fixture on Yaroslav Lenzyak’s Soblazn Music. The calibre of cuts the pair have delivered for Krab solidifies their respective places among a new generation contributing to the rising tide of the Argentinian scene.
Today we are pleased to be premiering the record’s title track, the A1 Tundra. A nimble number, it catches attention instantly with a driving kick and futuristic glitches. A tight hat and snare combination quickly brings a compelling energy that steadily surmounts as the track unfolds. The arrangement is incredibly tight and kinetic, with each drop on phrase injecting a new layer of excitement. Synth lines emerge to absorb the percussion, breaking down the track and providing welcome respite from the dancefloor chaos. There is not a moment across the track’s 8 minute run time that momentum feels lost, embodying Bernat’s striking balance of precision and playfulness.
The rest of the EP is equally groove-packed, albeit more subdued. All four tracks are coated with a layer of cosmic futurism, delicately balanced with an inviting human warmth. On the whole, it’s an incredibly danceable record begging to be played on a big system.
Hitting shelves in all its 180g glory on January 25, this is not one to sleep on. Pre-order your copy HERE.
