Bolivian producers Andy Somoza and Aka Juanjo join forces for the second release on Gradient, delivering ‘Fiesta Demente,’ a four-track EP that perfectly embodies the South American underground sound. Channeling a dynamic touch of house and electro influences, as well as a bouncy 80s vibe, this record is built for the discerning dance floor.
Opening the release is the title track, ‘Fiesta Demente’ (A1), a certified club weapon. Andy Somoza crafts an intricate web of driving drum patterns and a commanding bassline, creating a relentless energy that is primed for peak-time sets. There’s a sense of playfulness amongst the menace. Percussion and light and nimble, building an energetic vibe whilst still expressing deep and cosmic moods.
Andy Somoza’s prolific streak of output on various labels as well his SoundCloud has seen a growing level of support. His recent debut release on his own imprint, People Unpleaser, cemented his name as a rising force from Bolivia. His sound walks a stripped-back path whilst expressing strong moods like what we heard in his recent free download ‘Nadie Sabe (Mix Nostalgia)’ here.
Flipping over to the B side, Aka Juanjo steps up with his signature drum programming and a distinct knack for vocal manipulation. His productions build through evolving variations, keeping a pensive and unpredictable atmosphere.
‘The Unknown’ delves into darker territories, flexing spooky chords and ominous atmospheres that you could picture the likes of Nicolas Lutz and DJ Masda lighting up the place with. Energy remains high throughout, making these powerful yet playful tracks equally effective for setting the tone early on or bringing the heat at the height of the night.
Gradient’s second outing is a testament to the label’s vision, championing cutting-edge rhythms from the Latin underground. You can buy the record directly from Lirica Distribution
