Peruvian artist Alejandro Cuestas returns to his Cavilar imprint with a standout four-tracker, delivering a run of fiery, techno-leaning jams that carry both character and clarity. Cavilar has long operated in its own space, favouring deep, trippy, machine-minded club tools with strong South American fingerprints, and ‘Noches de Olivar’ continues that trajectory with confidence.
Our featured track “Noches de Olivar” is a spirited jam straight from the machines. You can feel the soul of South American music embedded in the atmosphere: delicate pads, rolling undertones and a warm sense of movement that instantly recalls the late-night energy of Montevideo’s Phonotheque movement. It’s easy to imagine selectors like Z@p or Nicolas Lutz taking this one for a spin, the vibe sitting comfortably within that world of moody, detailed club weapons.
A spiralling bassline forms the backbone, slowly evolving into a full-throttle synth workout. The mood is mean yet nimble, maintaining tension without losing its swing. The percussion is tight and unfussy, giving the main elements space to breathe while still driving forward with intent. It’s a track that thrives in the shadows, punchy, atmospheric and primed for dancers who like things hypnotic but energetic.
We first heard from the label back in 2023, already 23 releases deep into the label journey. Now on their 46th output, this release shows clear signs of a producer in fine form, confident, expressive and sharpening the Cavilar sound with each release. You don’t have to look too far beyond his personal Bandcamp to see how prolific Alejandro Cuestas’ output is.
Across the rest of the tracks, Cuestas explores a variety of moods. ‘Imaginario’ leans more uplifting, guided by airy synth gestures and a lighter sense of motion, while ‘Urano’ taps into housey terrain, built around a bumping groove and subtle melodic flourishes. The closer rounds things out with deeper colours, tying the project together in a way that feels thoughtful but still fully floor focused.
