London-based outfit Into The Woods continues their run of label output with their digital imprint’s next edition. Taking the lead for ITWD015 is Italian hotshot Phill Prince, who now offers the sleek 4-track “Ice Hi-Fi” EP.
Picking up with lead track “Ice Hi-Fi”, Phill Prince again blurs the lines between lush deep house and punchy minimal. Becoming something of a calling card of his productions, Prince creates an infectious conga groove that incorporates some well-known hip hop scratch samples to great effect. Moving on to “ALE02”, Prince goes for a more garage, skippy snare rhythm and this pairs effortlessly with the dreamy chords and bumpy bassline.
Leaning more on a deep bassline, “O’Connor” works out a piano roll motif that slides in and out of view with ease before the repeated notes slow down to help build the pressure. Completing the EP is “Asiko”, a dubby toll made for deeper floors. Utilising his ninja sampling powers, Prince works in the legendary Afrobeat vocals alongside a stripped-back minimal groove.
