London outfit Into The Woods have started 2023 with a bang after their recent spring event series did the damage across March and April. Having already brought you shows at the iconic Fabric and new East London hang out The Spark House, whilst simultaneously kick starting the upcoming minimal and house series in the Basement of Shoreditch townhouse, 25 Paul Street, they now turn their attention to the summer season and what a selection of events they have in store (spoiler alert at the bottom of the page).
The summer sessions see ITW take over Village Underground for three big shows with their their launch party landing this upcoming weekend, Saturday, May 13th. Heading this up will be Swiss maestro Alci and keen followers of our scene will be well acquainted with this man’s undeniable talents. From Caprices to Sunwaves, and of course his residency at Zurich hotspot Supermarket Alci is a force to be reckoned with. He’s joined by SlapFunk dame Doudou MD, an artist that only played in the UK for the first-time last year, but since then, MD and her bag of tricks has been clocking in some serious miles. Both acts are also only just back from blowing crowds away at Sunwaves 30! Support for this one will come from Telum head honcho Lee.
Continuing their jaunt around London’s finest nightspots, ITW will be launching their first residency at the best pub in town – Lion and Lamb. With a clear remit to deliver line-ups with guests that have not performed at the venue before, they open up their Sunday Sessions at the venue on June 4th and true to form will be bringing in an artist making his debut at the intimate audiophile wet dream. Heading up proceedings will be Dutch VBX main man Ferro and his groove heavy, abstract funk laden bombs will be put to the test on the pin point accurate sound system. Support will come from ITW usual suspects and Lilas Record owners, Tarek Charbonnier b2b Krif alongside Lee with this also marking the very special occasion of Tarek’s birthday!
As we enter July, Into the Woods heads back to one of their favourite venues Village Underground and it just so happens to be their 7th birthday celebrations. On July 22nd, they have brought in none other than Shonky to help blow out their candles and the Apollonia man is as safe a pair of hands for such a big occasion that you could wish for. The Frenchman has weapons for days in his record bag and just like him fellow guest Kristina has an insane level of quality in every selection. The Obrani label head has crafted a unique musical direction thanks to her releases and parties at Ukraine’s PORT club. To finish up their birthday event we once again see Charbonnier play b2b with Krif.
Next on the docket is ITW’s first trip up North and they will be stopping by Distrikt in Leeds on Saturday, August 26th. Taking control of the intimate setting will be Romanian artist Crihan and fresh from his sterling set at the spring Sunwaves session we can only imagine the reaction. Joining the booth will be Swoy for only his second UK show, his EP for ITW did some serious damage with a repress on the way, so expect his set at Distrikt to be no different. The early hours belong to Kearun, Lee b2b JJ Mowbray, and Simone Ellis.
Heading back to the Lion and Lamb for their second pub-based instalment and ITW have again come up trumps with a headliner who will also make his debut. This time it is Romanian hit machine Cosmjn to step up to the decks and the thought of his bass heavy, cosmic bangers in such an intimate space is all you need to know about this one. Providing the often overlooked support sounds will be new partnership and alias Seizun (look out for their Taste The Rainbow Records) and Leeds regular Binyamhn.
For the (possibly) final summer adventure Into The Woods will be heading back to Village Underground where they will be presenting a very special joint venture with Romanian heavyweights ‘Them’. The brand Them have been seen touring Europe all year with they first steps into London taking place on Saturday, September 23rd. There will be an unmissable b2b at the very top of this list so keep your eyes peeled for the finer details on this headline performance but take it from us you will not want to sleep on this one. ITW residents Charbonnier, Krif, and Lee will all be playing their part in this special party in what could be their swan song of the season and judging by the level of events that proceed this, those in attendance are in for a treat.
One thing ITW are renowned for is the afterparty so expect all events to come with carry ons for the hardcore amongst you.
