Peruvian platform Cavilar have released the latest EP in their online offering. The label was founded back in 2020 by Alejandro Cuestas, an up and coming artist from Peru who can be found playing at the hottest underground spots in the country’s capital. A host of artists join Cuestas in the Bandcamp back catalogue and this time the label welcomes Most Wanted.
Now based in Barcelona, Stefan Cukic aka Most Wanted is doing the rounds of late. Between his home country of Peru, his set up in Spain and bookings in Berlin, this is an artist exploring a creative flex and being recognised in the process. Two aliases and one arm of SIMN mean three separate outlets to serve up different sounds. He joins Cavilar with a three track EP, which has hit a host of digital stores today.
As a whole Sabor Ácido EP brings together a blend of flavours across three modest cuts. As might be suggested in the name, the title track brings the acid injection. Gritty vocal welcomes the beat, growling gently over a raw sub bass, punching a low-slung groove. Sharp but simple percussion keeps the flow slick, but it’s the sound of the subject that takes to the fore.
Squeaking acid flows in constant, riding a wave of melody that strides from the deeper side of the rough, twisting through into higher textures. Breaks interrupt the beat, as patters of bongo tickle the edges. There’s time for a drop, a space in the sound championed by echoes of the Spanish flavour and latin licked drum pattern. Primed for a smash of the cymbal, a moment for the floor.
