After a year’s hiatus spent refining their sonic vision, digital label Monet make their eagerly awaited return. The release, It’s Not a Trend EP, is emblematic of Monet’s finessed identity: sleek club tracks that are rich in character.
Delving into the deeper side of minimal house, the EP offers two original cuts from rising Ibiza based producer Tolab each with a fresh remix by Moscow’s Lost.Act and Monet’s label head Pana respectively.
Our premiere is the most atmospheric of the four. Lost.Act’s remix of ‘Solid’ is subtle deep house at its best: low on frills and high on emotion. It’s a clean sounding cut where propulsive rhythms are delivered with a poignant lightness and a sense of direction is sustained throughout. Embellished by pattering hats and glistening synths, the track’s charisma seems to come from up top. Expertly imbuing its charm with dance floor purpose, a throbbing kick moves things along while sprightly drum patterns and a simple but effective bassline add a healthy dose of swing. It’s the second half that steals the show, though, as celestial tones and rich melodies shine through with confidence. Perfect for dancefloors in need of a pick me up, it’s a workable number with undeniable potential.
If this release is anything to go by, this is a label we’ll surely be watching in the year ahead the ‘It’s Not a Trend’ EP is available to purchase through Beatport.
