With the new year arriving the advent of events on the other side of the world has a little more attraction to them. Even more so when they take place in far flung destinations such as the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. Since its inception in 2016 SXM Festival has grown to become one of the must attend location festivals of the year. One look at the images and videos and it is clear why this is the case.
This year’s event will take place between Wedensday, March 8th and Sunday, March and as always SXM Festival will be taking place across the whole of the other worldly island of Saint Martin. SXM is known for its finely balanced curation as much as its jaw dropping scenery and stage locale. Never one to tread softly when announcing their artists and their first phase is impressive to say the least.
Old favourites, cult heroes and names that are perhaps new to some but well known to others all have their place on the first salvo. Top tier artists such as Apollonia, Sonja Moonear, Raresh, Maher Daniel, and Marco Carola are joined by established headlining acts Archie Hamilton, Gene On Earth, Chaim, and Sis. All artists with serious minimal leaning underground chops. As always there is plenty of space to support future heroes such as Demi Riquisimo, whose Semi Delicious imprint is causing all sorts of dancefloor mayhem.
Demi’s link to another of the SXM’s tier one artists is not an obvious one. Having played back to back with DJ Tennis, the Italian legend will be performing under his newly formed pseudonym Astra Club where he plays alongside Carlita. As well as major players Francesca Lombardo, Dubfire, and Konstantin Sibold one OG DJ, Doc Martin will also be on the island. As well as underground sounds, there will also be a range of other vibes to take part in. Another major part of the festival is the leave no trace policy and the initiatives that they are part of in order to maintain the idyllic ecosystem that is so finely balanced.
