Recent years have seen festival locations becoming more and more beautiful. Organizers continue to search all corners of this beautiful planet on which we live, all the while on the hunt for the most idyllic spots. Places of perfection, to celebrate the joys of dance and electronic music. Up there as one of the great natural beauties offering space for such an occasion is the Bwejuu Beach in Zanzibar, Tanzania. And bringing the beats down to the equator from Bahrain, Soundscapes are returning for their third beach edition.
Four days of the finest electronic music across June 28 – July 2, Birds of Paradise, a new breathtaking venue, new wellness program with globetrotting healers, a local artisanal market with creators from Bahrain to Tanzania, food vendors from the island including a sustainable organic farm to table Swahili food and curated dining area, and for the first time 2 musical stages. The second being an ambient shaded intimate stage nestled in the jungle.
It’s no surprise the Soundscapes collective keep coming back to this lovely little island. Following their first edition last year, it took no more than five months for round two. The offering of a wholesome experience makes it all the worthwhile, the tranquility of the place making this more than an homage to the sound on its own. Soundscapes Zanzi brings together a community, both in electronic music worldwide and the culture residing already on the island.
The new venue is a stunning coconut forest, a land of native Zanzibari plants and 100 years-old coconut palm trees with a secluded 200 meters stretch of white-sand beach overlooking the Indian Ocean. This wild natural space will enable artists and community members to create the most stunning stages and art installations for what is to be the most anticipated edition we’ve produced so far! Soundscapes pledges to preserve the Zanzibari land and culture, and co-create a new home that supports the entire community.
This special Birds of Paradise edition builds upon the lineups of the previous. Genres come together, bringing leading names in minimal alongside purveyors of the melodic. Organic house music and techno combines, blending softer, more emotive sounds with a deeper, grittier punch.
Debutants this year include some of the most sought after Artists at the moment, bringing Sonja Moonear, tINI, Fumiya Tanaka, O.Bee and Tomas Station, DJ Dustin and Eli Verveine to the shores of Zanzibar for the first time. Eli Verveine, Daylomar, Vinylmode, Majid, Daddybisht, Mazen and Mozeez follow suit, alongside a bunch of usual suspects who are back for more.
Raresh plays solo, having previously made waves at the first edition with Praslesh counterpart Praslea. This year also welcomes the return of Andrey Pushkarev, Dan Andrei, alongside regular Soundscapes fixtures the likes of Baloo, Biirdperson and Omar Fayyad. Add to that the talented Soundscapes residents made up of Hameed, Usif, O Squared, Nezar and Zone+ will also ensure the delivery of music across the festival stages. As well as extended sets from these unmissable artists there is also a finely curated crop of very special b2b’s that include Andrey Pushkrave x Eli Verveine, Baloo x Vinyl Mode, Hameed x Omar Fayyad, the unstoppable duo of O.bee and Tomas Station, and some impromptu pairings. A quick slant at the lineup and you can guarantee there will be some tasty new matchups across the festival.
