The long running Egyptian festival Sandbox returns for its eighth edition and with it comes a total package of selectors, artists, live acts, energy, and all the sun and sand you can handle. The Middle East is literally a hotbed of styles and sounds, it always has been and it always will be. That’s the beauty of this vibrant region. This year, the eclectic ethos of the festival continues to grow and there are some truly inspired selections in store.
Just in case for those of you at the back that come across Sandbox last year’s gathering presented a jaw opening amount of hero’s including Dana Ruh, Leo Pol, Peach, Job Jobse, Sonja Moonear, Madmotormiquel, Gene On Earth, Henrik Schwarz, and Ben UFO. This year however, the date you need to get in your diary is Thursday, May 11th to Saturday, May 13th. The location for this fine collection of soundtracks is Du Port El Gourna, a sandy enclave in the Red Sea that boasts crystalline coast lines, lagoons and corals. Above all else it is home to one of the finest festivals in the area.
Slotting in towards the top of the festival billing there is a neat array of house hold names and breaking stars in the form of Seth Troxler, Sugar Free, Francesca Del Gard, Hamish and Toby and French space cadets Oden and Fatzo who will be taking their crowd on a live cosmic trip. Elsewhere around the sun kissed full sonic spectrum festival will be Astra Club, Carista, Cici, Dan Shake, Jayda G, Moodymann, Palm Trax and Paramida.
As well as this plethora of huge international guests there will also be a full complement of regional heads come in the shape of Zeina, hisham Zahran, Vinyl Mode, Fulltone, MDL Beast’s creative guru and bad man selector Baloo, homeboy Omar Fayyad who will be playing on his own turf and quite a lot more besides. With some parts of the Middle East starting their weekend a day early this will get you right in the mood while your mates that didn’t come will be hearing all about it from their office desk.
