REC Club ushers in a new era in Napoli’s club culture

On September 20th, REC Club Napoli officially opened its doors with resounding success, welcoming a large and highly diverse audience for a night that set the tone for what this ambitious new hub aims to represent. The launch featured the Italian premiere of Sven Marquardt’s exhibition Disturbing Beauty, showcasing a selection of the artist’s photographic work from the last 40 years, including images captured in 1980s East Berlin as well as various series from the year 2000 onwards. Marquardt was present at the event, creating a true dialogue between the artist and the viewer.ù

The evening continued with DJ sets by Jeesoria and Giuseppe Fava, who set the stage for the much-anticipated performance by Detroit techno legend Carl Craig, who captivated the audience with a powerful set that transformed the venue into a shared collective experience.

Located in a former industrial complex in Pozzuoli, Naples, REC reimagines a symbolic venue in Naples’ nightlife history, once home to the historic Ennenci club, and later the Golden Gate, transforming it into a contemporary cultural ecosystem with an international outlook. Conceived by a young team under 35, REC is not just a club, but a multidisciplinary hub where music, art, performance, and cultural research converge.

The project’s vision is clear: to create a living, inclusive space that connects Naples with the rest of the world, while fostering community, creativity, and experimentation. With 1,100 square meters dedicated to clubbing, exhibitions, live performances, workshops, and cultural production, REC is designed as an open environment where the boundaries between disciplines dissolve, giving space to new forms of dialogue.

Among its upcoming features, REC will host a vinyl pressing studio and a recording studio, symbols of the venue’s commitment to musical culture, craftsmanship, and production, as well as the project VISIVA, produced by REC to support emerging local artists. Through VISIVA, starting the 4th october with Arianna Rybchenko, artists will create new works within REC’s spaces, later showcased in collective exhibition-events. This will further establish REC as a hub for both creation and dissemination, a place where artistic production becomes tangible and lasting.

At its core, REC is about education and transmission: inspiring new generations while also reconnecting older ones to contemporary cultural languages. It actively promotes education around club culture, raising awareness of its values. REC also champions inclusion and a melting pot of generations united by the transformative power of music and art. With a wide range of artists and genres in its program, REC embraces diversity under a single guiding thread: cultural growth and exchange.

The program has already set the pace for the coming months. Alongside a series of international DJs and a calendar of live bands and jazz, REC will host performances by major names such as Adiel, Egyptian Lover, and the Parisian Yoyaku Records, as well as exhibitions like the first Neapolitan solo presentation of digital artist Alessandro Malossi.

More than a venue, REC is a meeting point between creators and participants, with a calendar that embodies the diversity and vitality of its mission, where shared experiences generate new connections.

The turnout on opening night proved that Naples is ready for a project of this scale and vision: an interdisciplinary space where club culture and the arts not only coexist but amplify each other.

With its strong identity, long-term cultural vision, and commitment to both local roots and international connections, REC Napoli is positioning itself as a new landmark in Europe’s contemporary creative and music scene.
