There are some serious forces at work during the upcoming week of Barcelona’s Sonar Festival. If the Spanish city wasn’t already buzzing with excellent choices on the clubbing calendar all year round, it really does come alive in the mid week of June. Promoters aplenty will be making the most of the days on and round the festival itself, as the whole week becomes dedicated to the dance. And it’s the perfect opportunity for the combined minds of Les Enfants Brilliants (LEB) and INPUT to showcase their latest ventures.
Of course, LEB itself will be open on the daily from Wednesday 14th June right through to Sunday 16th June. The nightclub is dubbed as the spaceship. Thanks to its intergalactic laser rig and an intimate dance floor so disconnected from the outside, it leaves you with feels that you might just launch into the interstellar. With a rocket sound system to boot, this is one of the most anticipated spaces for the dance and with that, the lineup for Sonar week is a delectable one.

Apollonia will return to the club exactly one year to the day. Their opening of the previous week’s festivities was such a stand out session last time, they’re coming back to do it again. Dan Ghenacia, Shonky and Dyed Soundorom will be taking charge of the controls for the duration of the night, right through until 6am. Thursday brings another artist all nighter, with a Pieces showcase featuring Binh, DJ Masda and Nicolas Lutz. Again an almighty b2b2b to see the night through.
Continuing into the weekend, Traumer presents his own Get.Traum series on Friday. The man man himself will be joined by Romanian stalwarts Gescu b2b Sublee. Bringing up the rear is Les Enfants own resident DJ Alex – there isn’t an artist who knows how to steer the ship better. Saturday welcomes Partisan x Lemaia, who rally the crew of Ildec, Alexia Glensy and Matthias, all before a special b2b between lady of the moment Anthea and a secret guest. The final night sees another strong pairing up between Amsterdam’s revered series’ Slapfunk x VBX. Samuel Deep, Junki Inoue and Fumiya Tanaka will share the decks for this one.
What about the day time, you ask? Of course it doesn’t stop in the four walls of Les Enfants. Last year the crew behind it teamed up with the mighty Input to create a brand new outside events series simply named, Output. Offering up a high fidelity outdoor experience nestled in the woods of Bosc Tancat, this might be a little trip outside of the city but it sure looks a worthy space for dancing in the nature.
Friday supports a superb presentation of partners tINI & The Gang and Limousine Dream. Of course tINI herself and Gene on Earth are heading up the bill. The latter is joined in a well affiliated back to back by Dyed Soudorom, as well as Fumiya Tanaka, Garrett David (live), Liquid Earth b2b Mari.te and Charlotte.
Saturday sees another mighty brand returning to the Spanish shores, as Kaluki host a bunch of deep house hitters the likes of Richy Ahmed, Cuartero, wAFF and East End Dubs. Finally Sunday will be served by Slapfunk x VBX thanks to a superbly selected line up featuring The Ghost, Ryan Elliott, Laurine & Cecilio, Cap b2b Reiss, Doudou MD and Barcelona’s own Sampol b2b Alex.
If that wasn’t enough, this extra special week will mark celebration of the launch of Opposite – a brand new club again behind the brains of LEB and Input. There really seems to be no stopping this collaboration. A quick glance at the Opposite lineup reveals a no holds barred approach and a tendency toward top quality.
From Wednesday to Saturday, you’ll find day parties rolling into the night. Fabe kicks off proceedings with a live set as part of his own Salty Nuts soiree, inviting Alex Facloner, Cristi Cons, Lauren Lo Sung and Nekes along the way. The next day the festivities double up, as London collective Half Baked celebrate 15 years of love. The Sonar week regulars will host Sam Bangura, Praslea, Margaret Dygas and Dyed Soundorom yet again.
Friday brings in Berg Audio, another Barcelona based institution. The ever present Andrey Pushkarev is joined by Arapu, Janeret, Lola Palmer, Selidos and Mihai Popoviciu, who celebrates a recent launch on the label from earlier this year. Closing out the weekend is none other than Dubfire, accompanied by a host of label mates ready to serve up a proper showcase of SCI + TEC.
We know that’s a hell of a lot of parties to choose from. And they’re all so damn good, hosted by some of the best in Barcelona. Choose wisely, make the most of day into night and although it might be a tough ask, do try get some rest in between. This year’s Sonar week is already looking like there’s a lot of fun to be had…
