It is hard to believe that a year has passed since we last waxed lyrical about Comics Trip and the label showcase events, yet here we are. A year older, a year wiser, a year full of parties under their belts and the colourful band of the Parisian crew are still mainlining the finest underground house, techno and breaks into their dedicated supporters. When we last caught up with the team they were in the process of setting up a marathon 24-hour rave that would take them across two venues and this is exactly what they have in store on Friday, 11th November and Saturday, 12th November.
Their most recent event was a similar affair which saw them collect together the capital’s finest crews and this is just the beginning of their story since we last discussed this collective. Since we last spoke they have welcomed the likes of Alexandra, DJ Tree, CYMK, Raphael Carrau, Le Loup, Andrew James Gustav and Sweely. Their extended events always have a local tinge to them and why not considering the huge amounts of talent they have within their own ranks and the wider city.
As with all their events there is a distinct ethos behind each edition and Comics Trip curate each party as a whole entity. Each part of the trip is as important as the next and so each section of the 24-hour period has meaning and purpose. For their trip, as you might expect, they have something rather special instore. The first section of the adventure will take place at Parisian institution Rex and in keeping with their finely crafted trip they have managed to secure the talents of none other than OG ambient all-star Higher Intelligence Agency. Bobby Bird might not be as much as a house hold name as The Orb but he is just as influential. Having been active since the early 90’s his set will be a timely reminder that ambient music is just as an important part to play a club journey as the more upfront sounds.
Talking about the more dancefloor focused sounds there will be plenty of that on the program as they have two certified legends on the bill. The first is Melliflow co-head Vera and her skills behind the decks is second to none. As much focused on bombs as she is the softer side of music, she has her fingers in a lot of different musical pies and Experimental Intrinsic is just one of these many facets. Joining her is one of our favourite artists and an absolute silent assassin on the decks – DJ Masda. For anybody that gas caught Yuki in action they will most assuredly attest to the fact that his deft selections are not of this world. His ability to dig out the most insanely mind melting tracks truly needs further investigation and will most definitely ensure this first section of the trip goes off with a very loud bang. Providing the supporting sounds is Comics Trip crew member LEMOAN. An artist with his finger on the pulse and not just when it comes to the music he plays. An in-demand selector in his own right and then some.
Moving forward in to the journey Comics Trip decamps from Rex and moves on to their second home of Pirate Radio and they have even more excitement and surprises waiting. Beginning at breakfast time and continuing well into Saturday night there will be a host of regular faces and some unknown quantities. Firstly, taking up the baton will be Comics Trip act DSO, a regular at the hottest parties and festivals in Europe he will be joined by fellow Comics Trip members Sea Side Department and Small Moves artists Ika & Usherenko. There will also be two very special guests along for the ride but you will need to wait and see who they are, but we are sure you won’t be disappointed.
