Four years ago Casey Spillman made ten Flavourz and released them digitally as part of his Wednezday Flavourz EP. A reward for his successes, he went on to join the FUSE crew, releasing on INFUSE with the nicely titled Adore and Endure Each Other. Now the Flavourz are back, with number eleven out for release on 30th June via his own label Temperature.
The last time Spillman featured on our pages we premiered ‘C2C To Fenchurch St.’, a vinyl release full of bounce and funk. From wax to Bandcamp and back again, all angles are covered.
’11th Flavour (Can’t Stop Us)’ is a bit of a banger. The bassline is hefty, infused with dub and a deep groove. Definitely one for the FUSE lot, it’s a blend of dub, garage and techno made up in clean precision. Tight percussion rattles and short synth stabs delay, simple but sharp on the beat.
Vocal is teased for the most part, building up to the breakdown where the chorus is celebrated in full. The vibe is stripped back and primed just right for pleasing a crowd before the bassline drops back in. Throw in some sirens, it feels cheeky and eery.
Spillman is also managing to squeeze in a little playtime and can be found back at LOCUS this weekend. The FUSE ran label celebrate the wider family with this one, with Josh Baker, Lauren Lo Sung and Subb-an all set to join over the Summer at 93 Feet East.
Buy the 11th Flavour from Bandcamp on Wednesday.
