Premiere: B2 – DJ Popup – RK [A404009]

French taste making platform / label / party series Aurore 404 strike back with their next wax based edition. Having steered the label output through a wide eyed curation of deep house and more upfront bumpy cuts, A404009 falls to NES founder DJ Popup to showcase his skills.

Today we approach our premiere review in reverse order with DJ Popup’s “RK” taking the lion’s share. A deeper cut than usual typifies Aurore 404 and their lush soulful output. Energy packed drums signal the warmer months spreading across Europe and with it the chance to experience stunning tracks like this where they belong in the open air. Shimmering pads and elongated piano chords segue together to form a warm smile inducing atmosphere. B1 track “Singo” is a more upfront cut that propels the ear back to the hey day of French house. Filtered and funky is the order of the day.

Flipping over to side A and “Discovery” stays within this filter lane and there of course there will be likenesses to Daft Punk’s earlier work, and you would be correct. However, Aurore 404 always goes that bit deeper and unfurls a much stronger understanding of this much loved sub genre. Central takes the original and flips this into a hazy day dream, stringing out the breakdown section from the Dane artist and turning in more of a reprise / edit version, there is no end of sunshine bliss out moments.
