Premiere: B1 – Kolhida – Break And Escape (Cezar Lazãr Remix) [TTM003]

Taka Taka label boss Kolhida returns to action with the third edition of his vinyl only imprint and what a package he has lined up. As well as his own two original cuts, he also has a reworking from none other than Romanian legend Cezar Lazãr.

Side A belongs entirely to Kolhida’s epic EP title track “Break and Escape” and as the name suggests this work is an adventure through minimal broken beats. The murky soundscape of detuned garbled bells and sweeping atmospheres catches the ears immediately and carries the listener away.

It is however the Cezar remix on B1 that impresses the most, where the mood of the original version is reimagined with the use of undulating rhythms and a deep bowed bassline. The Romanian artist dials up the mysteriousness of the original even further with the carefully crafted energy that he has become so well known for. Making use of a repeated brass section and circling pads, Cezar winds his influence through the original source material in such a way that a brand new track emerges from the depths. With an ear for the most subtle of audio elements, his version is transformed into a fluted masterpiece.

Completing side B and the EP is the second original track from Kolhida – “Piano Confession”. Returning to a more minimal footprint, the Taka Taka label head produces a much more forlorn track that leans heavily on a super deep bassline and a groove bulging with glitchy percussion. The filtering hats and swirling atmospherics pair nicely with the punchy kicks to produce a low slung groover that punctuates this third EP effortlessly.

Kolhida’s “Break And Escape” EP is now on pre-sale via Decks.de.
