Clock Poets return to wax for their latest release. The Spanish label are one of few words, spending more time spent dedicated to the music rather than talking about it. They are focused on building a slow and steady back catalogue. Past editions have featured the label owners themselves, alongside remixers the likes of Guido Schneider, Steevio, Andrea Ferlin and Topper. CKP005 has been in the pipeline for a while and Atoll is the one taking charge.
The Berlin-based producer with label of the same name has been making music for some time. Over the years, his tracks have received support from heavyweights in the industry, such as Zip, Ricardo Villalobos, Margaret Dygas and the list goes on.
His latest piece comes in the form of The Crossroads Of Time EP. Featuring two full-lengths, we’ve taken the B side for the premiere.
‘Black Magic Chocolate’ is a deep dive into the eery and atmospheric. Over 11 minutes of pulsating rhythm and delicate percussion, engulfed in a mist of grand ambiance. Tinged in darkness, there’s something hypnotic in the simple yet refined beat. A certain elegance trickles from the formation of soft pads that gently touch in at the opportune moment.
Beauty is born into the breakdown. As percussion lifts, the grandeur of synth and soft melody comes into its own. Strings sing lightly as higher frequencies tickle the senses. Rhythm for the most part is removed as the journey comes to its pivotal point. Unbeknownst to the listener, we had been building up to this moment all along.
