RTC Series label owner And.re has teamed up with fellow Swiss artist Aamir for the first release on his new imprint and he has secured the talents of Romanian starlet Nu Zau and Tobe for remix duties.
Together with sparring partner Sepp, Nu Zau has crafted a hypnotic groovy style that has stood him in good stead when appearing at some of minimal’s most sought after events and this tough, melodic vibe is exactly what is on the menu with his re-rub of ‘Altasinth’. Nu Zau’s remix on B1 is an understated heater that undulates and pulses under the weight of a throbbing bassline that snakes its way through the nether regions of the track. The waning pads and slightly crunched synths are expertly underpinned by the Nu Zau’s trademark crisp kick drums that seem to appear from nowhere at the end of the awe-inducing main breakdown. Snappy block percussion roll and tick away in the background but it is the resulting atmosphere that really makes this track pop.
Circling back to the original version of ‘Altasinth’ on A1, it is clear to see where Nu Zau cherry-picked the elements for his version from. Where the remix showed refrain and subtlety the original from And.re and Aamir their original steps up the energy levels. Deep bass tones combine with snappy claps and sizzling hats with still retaining the satisfying crunch of the drums.
The second original track from the duo on A2 ‘Alter Nebel’ sits a bit lower in the energy stakes and benefits from a more melodic approach but still showcasing the dynamic production style found in A1. As Nu Zau’s rework has already taken pride of place in our eardrums Tobe steps forward to take the reins on reimagining ‘Alter Nebel’ on B2 and he turns in a tasty detuned roller of a version. For a first release, the ‘Galaxy’ EP from And.re & Aamir hits the spot and we hope to see the duo’s name cropping up on more release and of course, we await the second release from RTC Series with bated breath.
