Artist Mihai Popoviciu has been one of Romania’s most trusted exports. His tracks have since the late 00’s been cropping up on the most respected labels such as International Deejay Gigolo Records, Poker Flat Recordings, and Wiggle.
Another long-running label that has been a consistent home to Mihai is Bondage Music and since 2013 but it is his most up-to-date outing on the label that interests us. There is something on this release for most tastes as the release gets a digital and vinyl version.
A master in the art of melodic hypnotism Mihai excels in this style and the pick of the digital version of the ‘Azul’ EP is Pornbugs remix of ‘Tristesse’. The first artist to release on Bondage Music Pornbugs takes the original version of the track and slows the pace slightly but works in a more complex rhythm to the mix. The hypnotic vibe progresses all the way to the main break before the tension releases just on time.
Title track ‘Azul’ wastes no time with complicated grooves, it’s all about simplicity here where the melodic pads and deep bassline do all the heavy lifting. Also on the release is ‘Gazoo’ but you will need to wait until the digital release hits the stores to hear it.
