Jacobo Saavedra starts his own label with a two solo cuts and two collaborations featuring Jay Nortown and Mike Delgado.
The Ibiza based artist has been pushing a lean, stripped-back housey sound common on the island for a number of years. As well as frequent gigs across the likes of The Zoo Project and a weekly radio show, Saavedra’s production efforts have landed on numerous imprints including HouseOnWax and Mate Ltd.
Creating a home for the fruits of his dedicated music labour, the new imprint SVDR showcases two slick studio partnerships, and an elegant solo cut. ‘Building’ is almost a testament to the term in the featured premiere, revealing a sleek micro cut from his alias JNJS with Jay Nortown, that featured on the channels late last year.
Elements are subtle and alluring, slowly growing over a pensive bassline, tension builds at a delightful pace, welcoming a stunning piano section and snappy percussive parts. Each sound comes across considered and well placed, slotting above a chord stab, or slipping under the snare.
It’s a lush, calming energy that would comfortably soundtrack the warmup of the beloved Ibiza Underground to a tee. Chords wash over the mix with a mystical charm, caressing the mix with gentle textures and vast atmospherics.
‘Bending Machine’ picks up the pace in Saaverda’s second collab with Jay Nortown, as JNJS. A muted bassline boasts a slick confidence, darting between head-scratching plucks and zips packing the loop with interest.
The label head showcases a similar punchy palate in his solo contribution ‘Mutable’. Sounds are lively and full of energy, whilst remaining unobtrusive and gentle. It’s the strain of sleek, elegant micro house heard regularly from the likes of Raresh and Praslea in their mammoth sets.
SVDR’s label venture looks like the sign of much more music to come from the Ibiza Resident, with a number of EPs coming soon, as well as frequent digital output and free download features on his Soundcloud.
