For the first release from South Chile label Pizza Pasta Records, the honour has fallen to Lukio. An artist with more than a passing connection to the Italian staples, he has produced a hardware centric EP worthy of this label’s maiden voyage.
Setting the tone of the EP from the outset is A1 groover “oK” and the sunkissed guitar licks that punctuate shimmering pads are the perfect centerpoint. A deep undulating bassline probes the farthest reaches of the lower frequencies while the looping percussion circles above. “Ko” is next on side A and here there is a deeper trip on offer. The stripped back grooves shift the focus onto the hypnotic paddy synths that seem to rise and fall like the passing ocean tides.
Flipping over to side B and Lukio continues down this lush, ethereal path with “Is There Anybody Out There”. The waning vocals pair invitingly with the repeating synth stabs that welcome each track element with open arms. Rounding things out for this first EP on Pizza Pasta Records is “TQ5 Say No More” and this is perhaps the more upfront cut of the EP. Fluted synths are joined by verby claps and pin point percussion.
