Premiere: A1 – Ballan – Goddamnit [STX1]

From the Skylax Records universe comes the first edition of Striker Traxx, headed up by Ballam, this first EP is a collection of upfront and feel good records perfectly to brighten up a wintery Monday morning.

We head straight to the top of the release where Ballan opens up with “Goddamnit”. A timely throwback to the powerhouse piano weapons of years gone by, the energy levels peak from the outset. Piano stabs take center stage with garagey percussion and a deep bassline that goes out to the ravers on the dancefloor.

Next on side A is “Members Only Club” that treads a more dusky path white still retaining Ballan’s energy signature. Atmospheric percussion and smart vocal snips that some may recognise from a well known gangster movie, really add character here. Completing side A is “Keep The Frequency Clear” and again finely mixed percussion does a lot of the heavy lifting here to drive the groove forward.

Flipping over to side B and “Futuro” continues the old skool grooves with whistles and trumpet stabs and more great vocal chops. For those looking for that early warehouse sound with a modern edge look no further than “Futuro”. Rounding out the release is the ironically titled “Where Do I Start”. The flanged bass guitar bass here works especially well with the shimmering synths and shuffling snares thus completing a great package for Striker Traxx’ first endeavor.

You can get your hands on STX1 via their Bandcamp page and also Deejay.de.
