Premiere: 3 – Saktu – Muted Glow [HSBRG105]

Heisenberg label boss Saktu has built a very impressive legacy for himself, by way of his productions and of course his record label, he has been extremely productive over the last decade. With his label producing more than 100 digital outings and more than 20 vinyl releases he now presents the stunning three-track “Ghost Sequence” EP.

Our dive into Saktu’s “Ghost Sequence” EP begins in reverse with our pick being “Muted Glow”. The understated groove undulates to the rhythm of a collection of airy toms that help to weave a hypnotic signature which is exemplified by the punchy kick that underpins the action. Breathy pads and lighter-than-air synths soon creep in to build the ever-evolving soundscape to a sighing crescendo.

Stepping back through the EP and middle track “Circuit” couples intricate percussion with a sweet bassline that arps alongside the stripped-out grooves. The result is a reduced bomb that injects just the bare minimum of fluttering musicality that only further focuses the ear on the earwork bassline.

Completing our look at this solid EP is the first track on the docket and the title track “Ghost Sequence”. What was the catalyst for the EP and the initial thought in the flow of the release leans heavily on the finely crafted bassline and there is little doubt that on a finely tuned big system, this will most definitely blow minds. Percussion and grooves are kept to a minimum here and for very good reason as the focus is very much on the marriage of that huge bassline and the eerie pads and synth washes that spread to the outer reaches of the frequency spectrum with ease.
