Premiere: 3 – Mbius – Crying For Minimum [VRTSM001]

Vaertism001

New Leipzig-based label launches with an eight-track Bandcamp release, featuring the likes of Mbius, Janthe, and Salomo.

The German collective spread their tastes across shades of eloquent and romantic house and electro, each with a laid-back, refined aesthetic.

Leipzig native Mbius steps up in this premiere. Following a number of releases for the likes of Rubsico, Jambutek and his own Bandcamp series, ‘Crying For Minimum’ straps into a stunning, electro-tinged journey.

Tight 808 beats open the track, strapping between delicate plucks with a buoyant, garagey bounce. The number of influences heard throughout the track is a testament to the knowledge and inspiration of new school producers.

Welcoming a string of melancholic synths to the rhythm, Mbius wraps a delicious melody around a heartfelt bassline that would slot comfortably alongside the early 90s electro movement in the likes of Carl Finlow and Keith Tucker.

A number of lush, thought-out melodies evolve the track to a deep, emotive state, without losing a sense of drive. Sharp hi-hats inject energy into the mix, coated with emaculate tweaks introducing a series of brief breakdowns.

Difficult to pin down, ‘Crying For Minimum’ is a slick example of the eclectic, genre spanning wave of producers coming out of Germany. It’s the strain of hypnotising, laid back dance music that is heard frequently across the likes of Hopppetosse and CDV in Berlin.

Several cuts across the release transcend genres, from ‘ttyfal & Chocolate Grinder’s mean acid opener, Ore’s sunkissed housey jam and DJ Balaton’s emotive closing cut, Vaertism’s first release is an exciting insight into an inspired collective.
