Premiere: 2 – Panno – Cherry Bomb [SHIB006]

Shibui Sound and its founder Panno are really hitting their stride at the moment with previous editions have been provided by Eluse, Johnny Hulus, as well as two top VA. It is Panno that is back in action as he takes charge once again with a two-punch combo on the sixth edition of their label releases.

We head straight to track two where we find “Cherry Bomb” and the airy atmospherics are nicely paired stripped back drums that really pack a punch. Verby snares really fill out the action here as does the deep probing bassline to create a super day time / peak time bomb. There is no elaborate buildup and drop, just good old-fashioned dreamy house music.

Circling back to lead track “Abstraction” and the acid-tinged theme continues in fine style. The intro to the track treads similar ground to that of “Cherry Bomb” regarding the assembled beats but the action leans heavily on the bounding bassline that will surely make an impact on the dancefloor. There is much more to get excited about here other than the bassline as the shorted fluted synth stabs will surely attest. The complex note arrangement here provides a bit more to think about during the main break and this is not a bad thing.
