Latin America continues to thrive as a hub for electronic, minimal grooves. Arguably several spots could be defined as the epicentre, across the countries that make up the vast continent. Argentina’s Buenos Aires is a strong contender. The vibrant capital is home to a dedicated underground scene, within which artists and labels alike can thrive. One such label is Pryma, an open and responsive platform nurtured by Montei and Delazar.
The fourth release in the series marks Montei’s first solo outing on the label. A regular at party spots around the city including the Selina’s rooftop, the terrace of Avant Garten and the club depths of Studio Crobar, Montei knows the vibe outside and in. Now he channels his experience of the sound into a nicely rounded four track EP on a label he can call his own.
‘Cucú’ is an organic piece driven by a grooving bassline. As the beats roll, tribal energies engulf the sound through majestic samples. Rhythmic percussion keeps the pace, while forest-like flavours growl and bounce like springs in the ground. Hollow melodies breathe life further, a musical personification of the existence of nature. Maybe that’s why the track is named after a bird.
Vibes are varied across the EP as a whole. ‘Lugones Mystic’ centres more on a deep house beat, with dreamy vocals and floating synthlines bringing warmth. ‘Siyá’ is a stripped back chiller backed with breakbeat while ‘Singing Búho’ combines a deep beat with pleasant notes of euphoria.
Lugones Mystic EP is a well-rounded art piece, a credit to Montei’s expression. Buy it in its entirety at Bandcamp.
