Returning for another round of space-based business is Marc Satseg on his own Spaceless Recordings and he again shows why he is so deft at crafting peak time weapons. Having impressed on his last EP which we presented, we are looking forward to sharing with you his “Artemis” EP.
Satseg drills further down into his peak time electro sound with the disco tinged “Proton” and with an almighty arpeggiated bassline it is straight to business from the very beginning. Ravey stabs and stuttered vocals keep the groove on high alert. Verby rim shots sit high up in the mix to really hit home the carefully selected rhythm section and this proves to be the main draw here.
Elsewhere, “You” is a more in depth look into the far reaches of Satseg’s universe. A probing synth bassline undulates on the pressure of the arriving kick drums, but it is the elongated pads that really push the atmosphere on a planetary level. “The Star” is next and recalls shades of trance on the gated pads and with the addition of the almost brushed breakbeats new life is breathed into this heavenly genre.
Moving onto “Underworld” and darkness falls, the menacing repeated bassline fit the title of the track perfectly and the intermittent vocal is a timely reminder just in case. Rounding out another fine addition to his label’s catalogue is “Artemis” and Satseg flexes his clear affinity for future retro electronica. Satseg shows no signs of slowing on his galactic quest and with the depth of different directions his productions take we hope that is not an answered question any time soon.
