Ukiyo was founded by Lukey with a view to celebrating all things extraterrestrial, as ‘ukiyo’ literally translates from Japanese to English as ‘floating world’, the onus lies on the space in which this weird and wonderful sphere floats. For this first edition, Lukey has created even more well-crafted bangers designed for space travel either on the dancefloor or further a field.
Luke Kelly AKA Lukey is no stranger to most, especially not us here at Trommel having featured Lukey’s “Glitch Machine” in our yearly top 100 tracks back in 2021, a notable tune from his top-tier release “Other Worlds Vol. 1” which landed on Carpet & Snares Records that year. Lukey’s music has also found its way onto other such hotly tipped vinyl labels such as Into the Wizard’s Sleeve, Proper Grub, the Void Project as well as Hot Creations. Having cut his teeth playing at various select-spots in Dublin before making the move to Barcelona post-covid, Lukey has been going from strength-to-strength with a consistent stream of releases being churned out, he has seen many a gig in Europe since.
With an ever-evolving sound and a keen ear for exploring, Lukey is worth keeping tabs on, from his studio prowess to emphatic, energetic sets that go a little deeper. We are keen for the rest of this unidentified frequency oscillation to be revealed as “Commander Of The Ark” leaves us intrigued and awaiting further discovery.
Elsewhere in the EP and “Origins Of Life” is just as exploratory and the crisp snare rolls and arpeggiating bassline signal a real focus on the propulsion to the stars. Verby FX and flickering synths paint a hopeful picture of space travel and with the beats being this powerful there is hope for an encounter. “Futuro” completes the package with an energetic reply from the cosmos in what could potentially be a sign of life. Crystal clear drums, acid wiggles, and synth stabs herald the arrival a new age. The Future.
