For our next premiere we have something rather special and a bit left of center than the usual club orientated tracks that we present to you. Celebrated Brazilian DJ, artist, and today a truly uniquely talented vocalist, Lourene has appeared alongside many top artists and labels such as Kizoku, Dansu Discs, Marcos Coya, Saverio Celestri, Adam Pits, Gab Jr. on Automatic Writing, the list goes on. Her next adventure is in her own name and it is in conjunction with longtime cohort Idris Bena and the result is an EP bristling with post-punk energy packaged with retro synths and raucous drum hits.
For our premiere we head straight to “Flying Away” and the euphoric levels are dialed to eleven from the beginning. Rib cracking snares are a constant throughout but so too is the sultry vocals from Lourene that tell an ecstatic state that soar the heights of the track alongside the fluted synths and electric guitar riffs. If ever there was a shot in the arm for a dancefloor it would be “Flying Away”.
The beginning of the release is just thought provoking and “Dark Nature” with Lourene in a more low slung mood and with Idris working his magic on the electric guitar and retro bassline there is a lot to unpack here. Not so much a club track, but with a serious nod to original electro, shades of trip hop and rock.
This theme curries over to “NOT HOT” but with a re-energised vigor that features a more jam style approach to the guitar elements and drawn out distorted synth lines. Closing out the release is more 90’s themes but in the best possible way that conjure up a more composed incarnation of Tori Amos that has more to say about the post club era that she helped to soundtrack.
The EP will be available via Lourene’s Bandcamp shortly.
