A new imprint from Verona, Art Is Long steps into the imprint arena with their new label taken from the collective of the same name. For their first outing, they have entrusted this honour to long-time crew member Banjo, who provides three fiery creations that straddle electro, breaks, and peak-time house music.
Our pick of the EP lies with “Gotta Get That” and Banjo has gone to great lengths here to inject the maximum amount of energy possible. From the mean synth that accompanies the tough percussion to the bleepy FX that added just the right level of confusion. Just when you thought the vibes were dipping below that of a boil the snappy vocal snips add in those missing vibes. Not that it’s needed as the track is perfectly boisterous without it, but it does raise the track that little bit more.
Italian legends Minimono take the original and flip it hard in an electro breaks direction with the use of a forlorn synth line that runs throughout. The bleeps transfer perfectly over from the original to their rework as it works in tandem with the darker edge that is prevalent in their remix. Roomy snare hits also help to fill out the track nicely here too which gives a massive footprint too.
Staying in breaks mode, the second original form Banjo “The Butter Side” makes great use of a shuffling drum loop that injects an insistent energy that demands attention and will no doubt work wonders on the dancefloor. Add to this the detuning bassline and there is a rock-solid package of club bangers of all descriptions for this impressive first outing.
