Matteo Floris returns to his Svogue record label with a four track EP.
The Barcelona-based producer has built a reputation for his consistent output of peak-time weaponry. Each release on his own label and boutique distribution SVogue has grown into a sold out and sought after record, channeling an array of UK and European influences that are lighting up dance floors across both scenes. We gained a preview of his more minimal-leaning work in last year’s free download, ‘Walky Talker’.
We zoom into the monstrous B2, ‘The [C]Rave’, an aptly titled bomb that is gasping for a busy dance floor. It’s the most techno-leaning of the bunch, working weighty percussion with a fierce stab sequence that would come to life on a big sound system. UK influences seep through with a dash of breaks and brooding basslines remnant of the Yorkshire techno movement in tracks like LFO – LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix).
The A side sees a more playful and bouncy side to Floris’ sound. Rawller is a mean, raspy cut lathered in strong acid lines and nimble drums forming this unique piece. You can hear obvious inspiration coming from UK garage and tech-house, as well as the fierce sound of Barcelona’s throbbing scene.
‘Skills Professionals’ could definitely slot next to some 90s garage, flexing a confident bassline and slick percussion lines darting between notes. Clever synth work caresses the menacing low end with some lush pads and a fizzing melody packing the tune with colour.
On the flip we head into the Spanish influence with ‘Gothic Quarter Turnout’, surely a nod to the bustling vibe of Barcelona’s gothic quarter. A slippery bassline sets a patient foundation before a set of dreamy chords wash over the mix, bringing a refreshing contrast to this fiery four track EP.
