Madrid label Ovnie continue to expand their family of affiliated artists. About to release their fourth EP, it’s another VA bringing together a new collective of finely primed producers. Sharing wax amongst talent is proving to provide a fine fitted formula, allowing a blend of expression each time. Deep, minimal house features in a fusion of flavours from a mixture of musical minds. From the latest, we’re premiering Matteo over on side B.
In recent years, Matteo has released across a number of labels. Not least including on his own point of art, from which we premiered earlier this year. The Italian artist is able to direct his sound, from one platform to the next.
‘Beer For My Bear’ starts with an acid led melody, high in pitch and ready to sport energy. Drum machine starts to tap and the bass gives little away. But the groove that follows is a big one, synchronised with the melody moving together in its arrangement.
An old school deep house vibe permeates through hefty drum rhythms and dreamy synths. Care free whistles wrap around deeper synth lines that breeze gently, breathing an atmosphere that takes hold at just the right moments. As the breakdown settles and the groove gets ready, the music follows with layering intensities. This mixture of motions give the right points for dancing, soaking it up softly or letting loose.
Matteo shares the wax alongside Og Zlatan, who opens up the record with a bouncing moover in ‘Nissan Skyliner’. DMC follows up with ‘The Big Mac’, a spacious cosmic squelcher on A2, while Bowyer’s ‘Collecting Mice’ opens up the B with deep, thumping groove.
Pre-order the record now at Phonica Records.
