Dutch house collective The Set launch their new record label under the same name, with a concept that aims to bring a distinctive and innovative sound to the electronic music scene through their meticulously selected artists. In addition to the renowned names they work with, they provide sanctuary for rising talents where they can express themselves and get the recognition they deserve.
For their first release, they prepared a collector’s edition record available in limited copies, featuring six different artists — five UK producers and one Dutch talent: Rtk Tarantino, Max Stedeford, Sozef, Matt Litmann, Malachy, and Jelsen.
Today’s premiered track, “5080 Mayhem” on side B1 comes from Sozef, The Set’s resident and the only Dutch presence on the album. It’s the kind of track that puts you in a dancing mood instantly, thanks to its infectious bassline that kicks in right after it starts. With its space-like sounds, vocal samples, and organ pads blending so well, there’s nothing left to make it even better than it already is. The track’s build-up is just as satisfying as can be, and we can’t wait to hear it at the next major gig.
Rtk Tarantino’s “My Twisted Mind” on side A1 brings an unmatched vibe to the dancefloor – just as the title suggests, the track’s a whole amalgam of unexpected twists, and in the best possible way. It’s lively and has both slow moments that allow you to take a deep breath, and fast ones that take you by surprise with their pure, raw bliss that’s sure to keep your feet busy dancing.
“Overload”, Max Stedeford’s track on side A2 is a refined blend of garage and house, with a mind-blowing energy that veers between dark and joyous, suspense and anticipation, tenderness and roughness. Matt Litmann’s “Full Circle” on B2 has an irresistibly catchy melodic line layered with just the right mix of male and female vocal samples to accompany it.
On side B3, Malachy and Jelsen’s “What’s Your Password?” delivers the proper closure the EP deserves, with a continuous flow of animated pads, seductive female vocals, and rewind effects. If the album were a party, this would’ve been the best choice for the after-party, no doubt.
Hurry up and get your limited edition copy of TSR001 as there are only a few left on Bandcamp and deejay.de.
