Wishing to keep the ‘Florida Connection’ alive, Dsum and his Back Door Records imprint welcome this 4 tracker EP from some of his closest Floridian compatriots.
Heading straight to B1, Dsum’s tasteful nod to the great soul singer Marlena Shaw has worked in a tasteful sample from one of her biggest hits into this shimmering open-air bomb. ‘Baked From The Souls’ features a simple conga line that helps to keep time on this undulating deep workout. In order, to propel this airy deep slab of house into more peak time sets Colombian native Dsum makes great use of a stripped-down acid bassline which adds the necessary bite.
Elsewhere on the ‘Florida Connection’ deep and dusty house is still the order of the day. Atomyard turns in a Rhodes heavy bubbler on ‘House Did It’, DG delivers a bit more of an upbeat, Amazonian tinged offering on ‘Astrida’s Flute’ and completing the VA is the reversed filtered funk of Mon’s ‘Motorcity Angels’.
