Picnic Records go from strength to strength with their label output, and for their landmark tenth edition, they welcome rising artist Shkedul.
For PICNIC010 the London-based label has enlisted Shkedul, whose A2 track “Serotonine Level” is our premier today. Treading perhaps a tougher path than previous releases from Picnic Records, the NORD LTD label boss is a dab hand at crafting robust bangers. Wiggling synths, severely stripped-back grooves, and a quite sinister vocoded voice keep things functional yet impactful throughout.
The remainder of side A – “Undisclosed” easily acts as the precursor to our premiere track, and the aciddy repeating synths herald exactly what is to come. The more atmospheric slant of this track compared to its side A counterpart fits nicely with the future retro techno aesthetic.
Side B finishes the trip with “Find Yourself” and again functional beatsare the order of the day as they are melded onto a dastardly blown bassline and more wicked synth work from Shkedul. Picnic Records yet again demonstrates its diversity in its label, which often reflects their booking policy in their events.
