Premiere: A1 – Simic – Under Control [AVILLE003]

Simic, the name you probably know primarily from his (and Miles Mercer’s) Accessory Records, this time lands on Alphaville Records. A bit forgotten name for me, to be honest, but there’s a reason for it – their previous release was made in the previous era (almost) – in 2019. But you could still hear the name of Tom Cottrell after that (he is running the label). I’m still waiting for one of Simic’s future releases, and knowing about what’s hiding there, decided to give this one a try too. To be brief – I wasn’t disappointed at all.

The record’s opener – “Under Control” is a crisp piece of something that you could call progressive, but prefer not to. You don’t want to have those clichés here, but you can’t deny, that we’re having one of the most suitable pieces for dancing. Echoes on the percussion, catchy melody with some additional dreamy chords. That combination can be played in every moment of your set.

A bit dizzier one – “Aquarian Age Groove”. No, it doesn’t take us into some Drexciyan depths, but has a lot rougher distortions, that are somehow perfectly paired with those aforementioned aquatic touches. “Cinema Scope”, the B-side opener, is a stripped down, laid back tune, a kinda lighter version of those previous two. We all need a little break sometimes, right? The last one on the record – “Nimbus (Amoeba Mix)” is Simic’s another signature piece. The perfect maneuver between that underwater deepness and some bigroom progressive vibe.

As I’ve been told, there’s been a limited run of 25 promo copies gone out to DJs already, and it’s being played by Ryan Elliot, Anthea, Velasco, Gianmarco Orsini, Harry McCanna, Hamish, Truly Madly – that’s if you’re thinking, that you’ve already heard the track. If you liked it – check the pre-orders at any good record store. The release date should be very soon.
